PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series releases X|S will take place this month and we want to confirm that Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can be run on new consoles in backward compatibility mode. Also in this mode will work updated versions of L.A. Noire (including an edition of L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files for PlayStation VR) and a number of classic Rockstar games.
If you purchased a physical copy, the game disc can be inserted directly into the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X (this does not apply to PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and Xbox Series S consoles). Holders of digital copies will be able to immediately download all compatible Rockstar Games linked to their PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account. On PlayStation 5, they will be available in the “Your Collection” section of the game library, and on Xbox Series X|S, in the “Ready to Install” section. Either way, you will be able to continue from where you left off. Saved files and the games themselves can be copied to your new console via LAN cable, wireless connection, or USB flash drive.
You can also transfer the latest cloud storage attached to your PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account. Before playing on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, make sure your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One console has cloud storage enabled. Your progress and achievements in Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online will also be preserved – provided you play with the same PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account on your new console. You can check if your accounts are linked to a social club.
In addition, all previous Rockstar Games that support Xbox One backward compatibility mode will also be available on the Xbox Series X|S. These include the following games that were released on the Xbox 360 or the original Xbox :
- Bully: Scholarship Edition
Grand Theft Auto IV
Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Midnight Club: Los Angeles
Red Dead Redemption
Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis
Similarly, Rockstar Games for PlayStation 2 will be available, which is currently available in the PlayStation Store on PlayStation 4.
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Red Dead Revolver
And as a bonus: all PlayStation®Plus subscription holders will receive 1,000,000 GTA $ each month for logging into GTA Online on PlayStation 4 until a separate version of GTA Online is released on PlayStation 5 in 2021. The funds will be credited to your Maze Bank account within 72 hours. Keep an eye on the Rockstar news feed: we will soon be telling you about the new expanded and improved editions of Grand Theft Auto V.
How To Transfer Data From PS4 to PS5
Preparing For Data Transfer
1-You should log into the network on PS4 under the same account as you logged into the network on PS5.
2-Upgrade the console software to version 8.00 (use the Automatic System Upgrade feature in the console settings).
3-Open the “Prizes” section, click the Options button, and select “Synchronize with PlayStation Network”.
To enable automatic software updates, open your PS4 settings, and go to: System > Automatic Downloads > System Software Update Files.
Connect both devices to the same wireless network;
Use two different LAN cables to connect the consoles to the same network.
If both devices are connected via a wireless network, you can speed up data transfer by connecting one LAN cable to two consoles.
1-Connected devices must be switched on and connected to the same network.
2-Log into the same PSN account on both consoles.
3-On the PS5 console, open “Settings” and follow the path: System > System Software > Data Transfer.
4-When the system detects the connected PS4 console, you will see a message on the PS5 screen ready to transfer data.
5-Press and hold the PS4 console power button until you hear a beep.
6-Select the data to transfer, then click “Start Transfer”.
When the devices are connected using one of the above methods and all conditions have been met, the PS5 will display detailed instructions on how to transfer the data. You can use the console in the standard mode during the transfer.
Other ways to transfer data
1-Use any USB stick with FAT32 file system to copy data from PS4 and transfer it to PS5 console;
2-If you have a valid PlayStation Plus subscription on your PSN account, you can upload your data to cloud storage and then download it to your PlayStation 5.
How to transfer games
1-If you have games for PlayStation 4 on physical media, just insert the disk into the PlayStation 5 console.
2-Games that are installed on physical storage can also be transferred to the PlayStation 5 console.
3-Log on from your PS5 console with the same account you used in PS4. In this case, all purchased games (including PlayStation Plus subscription games) will be available for play on the next-gen console.
